I am pleased to be able to announce that we will be able to have a Solemn High Mass at SS Peter and Paul`s Longbenton on June 29th at 7.30pm to mark the end of the Year of St Paul. I am hoping that in addition to the schola, we will have a choir to sing Byrd`s four-part Mass. All I need to do now is to find a red High Mass set!
If it all comes together we may even manage to produce some pictures for this blog.
UPDATE 6.06.09 Have secured the loan of a red High Mass set (sans humeral veil). Waiting for the Capella Novocastriensis to confirm.

Unfortunatley I'll be singing at St. George's, Jesomond on the 29th, otherwise I'd offer to sing in the choir. Make sure you have pictures taken!

Perhaps, Father, you may have the opportunity to sing the absolutely beautiful hymn to SS Peter and Paul - Felix per omnes festum mundi cardines...
This hymn is never heard these days and it has to be one of the most beautiful. My recording includes verses 1, 2, 5, and 7.

To quote from this site: "This hymn was sung at First Vespers of SS. Peter and Paul according to the use of the Church of York, which was followed of old throughout the north of England as that of Sarum was in the south. The seventh verse, in a slightly altered form, now forms part of the Breviary Vesper hymn for the feast, and the fourth and fifth verses are also retained in the Breviary for use on the lesser feasts of St. Peter."
Also: "H. Elpis, wife of Christian philosopher poet Anicius Manlius Severinus Boethius, wrote the lyrics to two hymns for the feast of St. Peter and Paul: "Aurea luce et decore roseo" and "Felix per omnes festum mundi cardines".
