St Joseph`s Gateshead

After the excitement of yesterday, I was glad to be able to celebrate the extraordinary form of the Roman rite at St Joseph`s, Gateshead today at noon. I was called by the parish priest on Friday and asked to be the celebrant for Sunday. I was glad that I was able to do so. At my two previous Masses at St Aidan`s Benton and St Mary`s here, I spoke about the Motu Proprio, summarised the explanatory letter and mentioned some of the legal points. At St Joseph`s it was good to be able to celebrate the news with a congregation of about 60. At the end of the Mass, the schola led us in singing the Te Deum. Here are some pictures. ( I don`t know why the white altar frontal was being used on a green Sunday. There is another all purpose one which is normally used.)

Sanctus bells ring
Are you listening?
On the vestments
Gold is glistening
A beautiful sight
The old Roman rite
Walking in a Ratzinger wonderland

Gone away is the guitar
Here to stay is the simar
We sing an old song
As we go along
Walking in a Ratzinger wonderland

We can build an altar ad orientem
Then go to see Father Brown
He`ll say “Are you stable?”
We`ll say `Yes man`
Will you say the Mass
While we`re in town?

Later on
We`ll conspire
As we sit round the fire
To face unafraid
The plans that we`ve made
Walking in a Ratzinger wonderland
