The Tablet

An apology to eccentrics. In my comments to the Tablet I say that the Tridentine Mass now belongs to the mainstream of Catholic life. It quotes me as saying: "This is not something for the eccentrics". I wouldn`t want it thought that I am excluding eccentrics from the benefits of Summorum Pontificum. What I probably meant to say was something like the 1962 missal is not just for eccentrics. If you are eccentric and thinking of coming to the Latin Mass but are worried you might get a frosty reception please be assured that this will not be the case.

Eccentrics seem to be the backbone that kept the light of the latin burning through the dark years when priests were reduced to saying the latin mass in hotel normally used for commiting sin rather than obsolving men of it.....

Love the eccentrics for they give you support and love in times when your mind has strayed to dark places and temptation of the flesh and the bottle call into your soul.........

Thanks Anonymous. I have no problem with anyone who wants to keep the Latin Mass alive. It has taken a fair amount of eccentricity to keep going in the dark days of the last few decades.
