Pope Francis defends Summorum Pontificum
Thanks to Messainlatino for the story of Pope Francis` recent meeting (16th May) with the bishops of Puglia who on their ad limina expressed unease with Summorum Pontificum and claimed it was causing great division in the Church. Pope Francis is reported as saying that while extreme traditionalists need to be watched there will be no overturning or reining in of the Motu Proprio but told them `to treasure the tradition and to create the conditions so that it may live with innovation` (ma suggerendo altresì di far tesoro della tradizione e di creare i presupposti perché questa possa convivere con l’innovazione).

I bet this gets some traddies all hot & bothered. But, an innovation like reading the Epistle & Gospel in English instead of Latin is perfectly acceptable, indeed makes lots of sense.

The statement may equally apply to those "extremists" on the other side.
Personally I am quite at ease with your second point. At one of the Traditional Mass locations I attend the Epistle & Gospel are already said in English and happily accepted by the congregation.
1569 Uprising is, of course, correct but not completely. Much more correct to say 'many' traddies (some of whom are, I feel, more correctly described as 'Talitrads'). Reading the Epistle and the Gospel is surely intended as teaching the Faithful and should therefore be in the vernacular. Indeed, one priest who says the Old Mass in Hexham and Newcastle has been doing it for years.Far better than the custom some adopt of saying both in both languages! Indeed, I suggest that up to the Offertory everything should be in English.
I remember being told once on a retreat that the readings are primarily for the glory of God not the instruction of the faithful.
However at least if you like Englis up to the offertory you are stuck for choice as to where to go to Mass!
