An interesting report on the Irish College in today`s Irish Times on the Vatican visitation.. I was particularly taken with the line :
The general rule of governance is ‘Let’s keep doing what we have been for the last 35 years’,
and:
Staff, it added, were “critical about any emphasis on Rome,
tradition, the magisterium, piety or assertive orthodoxy, while the
students are enthusiastic about these features”.
A change in the staff was recommended.
Elsewhere
the report said: “The apostolic visitor noted, and heard from students,
an ‘anti-ecclesial bias’ in theological formation.”
This may also be true of other seminaries, even in Rome, I suspect.

This tells us all we needed to know. This is the Irish College in Rome, supposedly the pinnacle of priestly formation for Irish clergy, where only the brightest and best were sent.
What are things like back home, one asks, knowing full well what the answer will be?
I have blogged a couple of times on this subject. Now I am waiting for an answer to the allegation not lightly made that the report erred factually!
