It is quite a shock to be having a proper Holyday on Friday. As usual there will be a Solemn High Mass in the Extraordinary Form at SS Peter and Paul`s, Longbenton on Friday at 7pm. We`ll be having a Palestrina Mass setting: at the minute I don`t know which one. After Mass there will be refreshments in the parish hall.
UPDATE:
Photos from the Mass can be found here. Many thanks to Mike.

Are there any statistics that shew trends in holy day attendance as there are for Sundays? They would be interesting to see and to compare with Sundays.
Looking at two copies of the Catholic Directory for 1910 and 1911 I was struck by seeing the earliest Mass on a holy day at 4:45am in several churches in the industrial north. Far more common were 5:00am followed by the majority of places offering 6, , 8, 9 etc.
It would be intersting to know whether the availability of Masses leads to increased attendance or the number - then and now - reflects demand.
IMHO the difficulty seems to be that REAL Catholics would attend Mass on Holydays regardless of when they were but others seem to attend only Sundays (if then) & don't even consider whether it is a Holyday or just a normal Sunday. It seems to be our hierarchy 'dumbing down' in an endeavour to make life easier & I don't think it works
I think many Catholics have been confused by the move to 'nearest Sunday' for most of our Holy days so aren't aware of those which remain obligations on other days!!! Very sad - blame the Bishops!
