Pugin: God`s own architect

I have just received information that this programme will be shown on BBC4 on January 19th. Readers may be interested to know that the programe will include the offertory from Solemn High Mass filmed in St Mary`s cathedral, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a Pugin building, at the end of last year.

From the photos above you will see the usual suspects were involved. Thanks to Pat for the photos.

As we leave at 5.30AM on 19th January would you please be kind enough to record it for us?

Just to clarify a couple of points. This will not be an extract taken from a Mass. In the ways of the film world all that the producers wanted was the Offertory, so that is all we did. We started after the Credo and ended at the Secret. Over a period of about an hour we had to repeat this several times and it was filmed from different angles. The priests were filmed, as were the servers, and also the schola; some in close-up and others from a distance, so it will be interesting to see how it all hangs together. An hour or so of filming may result in one minute of screen time.

I watched the programme on i-player and found it an interesting and sympathetic treatment of the great Pugin.

Gothic architecture expresses the Church's continuity both with the Middle Ages and with the Catholic Revival, while Romanesque architecture also expresses Her Medieval continuity, while Baroque architecture expresses Her continuity with the Catholic Reformation, while Byzantine architecture expresses Her Petrine Unity of the Western and several Eastern Patriarchates, and while Classical architecture expresses the recapitulation in Jesus Christ and His Church of all three of the Old Israel, Hellenism, and the Roman Empire. What do Modern and Postmodern architectural styles express?
