Reparation

There is a story in the news today in which the Archbishop of Canterbury says the Church of England should make reparation for its part in the slave trade. As I heard this on the news this morning my immediate thought was to wonder whether they will get round to making reparation for the Reformation and the loss of Catholic property!

Perhaps you should write him in this regard?

I don't believe that with all the evil that is allowed to flourish in the world today that any of us have the right to judge our ancestors.
On a less serious note, I have often mentioned to Catholic priests that we ask that we have all our old churches restored to us. Not one has so far been delighted with the prospect of looking after a crumbling medieval church needing new heating, new lighting and a new roof!

Perhaps the return of Durham Cathedral, York Minster and Lincoln Cathedral would make an initial good will gesture.

The Catholic Church could properly respond to that by undertaking to use only the rites traditional to those cathedrals or, where they have been lost in the mists of time, the Traditional Roman Rite.
