I am in trouble with the Powers That Be!I have tried to make a comment on the blog, and have been told, in red type(!)that my URL contains ILLEGAL characters. Who are these characters? I have nothing to do with the US Russian spy ring, money laundering, tax avoidance, eating meat on a Friday, wearing a biretta during an OF Mass, putting a bin out on the wrong day, making disparaging remarks about Ed Balls, having shares in BP and selling bananas by the pound. So, I am at a loss, and am living in fear of the knock on the door at midnight.
1569 (isn't it time he confesed to now being 1570?) is being silly or even absent minded; he must be guilty of at least one of the offences he mentions. And the Liberal government doesn't knock on doors at midnight; its always at dawn nowadays.
1569 is guilty of one of the things he lists but I won't say which one.
Sorry 1569 but I did warn you all that I am 'computer illiterate'. The Tories wouldn't DARE!!! visit you at midnight, dawn or any other time (without a prior appointment). I'd be really interested if 'Em' could expand on which things you (her Dad?) might be guilty.
I don't want to get him into trouble - it wasn't tax avoidance, money laundering, having shares in BP or selling bananas by the pound. So that narrows the field a little... beyond that I am not going to give any further hints.
I have that sinking feeling which one gets when the powers,Rowland, David and Em are circling ready to pounce. Apparently the Tories and Liberals are not coming for me, so that leaves Ed Balls. Now, I am really worried, the thought of Blinkie turning up at midnight.I shall seek political asylum in some country which may suit my views and prejudices.Any suggestions?
Ed Balls would be about right regarding 1569's misdemeanour from his original list.
1567 0r 70: try Germany
If 1569 is going to Germany he should head to Bavaria as Catholicism is still very strong there. I am sure he could learn Bayerisch very quickly and he could spend every day eating sausages and drinking beer with the locals.
I am so touched that Mr Rainbow and Em are concerned about my place of refuge away from the depradations of Ed Balls. However, I have just seen him on the Daily Politics, and he seems more concerned about two brothers called Millipede (or something like that), so I may be safe for the moment.Certainly Bavaria seems tempting: are the sausages Cumberland, or maybe Richmond's Irish Recipe? I am partial to both.To clear up one point which seems to bother bloggers here. I have no intention of moving with the times. 1569 was the great Northern Rising date, culminating in the spectacular Mass in Durham Cathedral where the people of the Bishopric were reconciled to the Holy See. 1570 saw the defeat of the great enterprise, and the slaughter of many thousands of poor Northerners at the hands of Elizabeth's deputy, Sir George Bowes. So, I do not wish to be reminded of that. I suppose compared to Bowes and Elizabeth, Blinkie Balls is a mere pussy cat.
His untoward silence may indicate he is alreaady on his way?
Em said...If 1569 is going to Germany he should head to Bavaria as Catholicism is still very strong there. I am sure he could learn Bayerisch very quickly and he could spend every day eating sausages ....but not on Fridays.
I don't think the "No meat on Fridays" rule applies in Bavaria. What on earth would they eat?
Em, you are obviously familiar with Bavaria. Are there no McDonalds there? Sampling the exotic fare of their establishments on a Friday would surely not constitute eating meat on a Friday.
Yes McDonald's and Burger King too.I don't know if Catholics in Bavaria and Austria think the no meat on Fridays rule applies to them - in fact none of my Austrian friends had ever even heard of it. Some of them also seem to think Catholics are still "regularly" killed in the UK for their faith and that it is dangerous to go there....(or maybe I have lost something in translation)
