Pantokrator for Longbenton

I was glad to see Sr Petra Clare had a mention recently on the NLM blog (even if the Ushaw training conference didn`t). Sister is busy creating a new icon for SS Peter and Paul`s, Longbenton. I thought readers might be interested to see the work in progress.

When completed it will go on the wall behind the altar in the panel with the outline of the previous cross.

I'm envious.

I hope people will like it and not complain. It's going to look infinitely more inspiring than a red panel and will be well worth the expense.

I agree with Panel beater but I do hope that the spike which sticks up out of the head of the figure (like at St Wilfred's) can be removed!

Panel Beater, the parishioners at Longbenton are happy about the proposal. It was a different story at St Mary`s where the only way it could happen was if extra funds were raised. I hope the people of St Mary`s are happy with the Annunciation icon now.

Ricard, I see what you mean about the spike! It`s part of the nimbus behind the figure and I`m afraid will be part of the new one too.

Sorry, Father, but does it really have to be there? How is it 'part of the nimbus'? Surely a competent designer could do it differently if asked nicely? To me the thing is a distraction and, may I suggest, might be seen as irreverent by some.
