Readers of Mass of Ages, the Latin Mass Society`s quarterly magazine, might be forgiven for thinking that the North East of England, and more specifically the diocese of Hexham and Newcastle has fallen off the map. Once again we had no report on the activities of the Latin Mass Society in this diocese in the magazine which I received today. Rest assured we are still here. We had better be if the next LMS training course is going to take place at Ushaw. Not sure what the technical problem was but I hope we may have a report in the next issue.
P.S. Please ignore the Teeside bit on the map above: it`s not ours.

Up until a year or so ago the advertisers map in the back of the Northern Cross (diocesan newspaper for Hexham and Newcastle) did not have Hexham marked! It's been added more recently. Sometimes I think it's better to be a hidden gem, then again perhaps we northerners need to assert ourselves!
A report from Hexham and Newcastle was sent to the LMS office in January. Non-publication is a mystery which may be cleared up within a day or so. Or may not be, either! Watch this space.
No need to watch this space any longer. "Due to shortage of space" it seems it was decided that the Hexham and Newcastle report was not newsworthy enough for publication, despite following a similar pattern to other reports in the same publication. Not even the bit about the first EF Mass in St Mary's Cathedral in Newcastle for many years was included. Shortage of space must have been very tight to omit two and a half lines, two and a half lines which recorded our thanks to the Cathedral authorities for making the cathedral available. As Seeker said: "Sometimes I think it's better to be a hidden gem, then again perhaps we northerners need to assert ourselves!" I like us being a hidden gem but too late on this occasion to assert ourselves!
Fr Brown: your hope for a Hexham and Newcastle report in the next Mass of Ages is futile since I understand the present D.R. has resigned and no one seems to be ready to replace him(her?)
Canny Lad,the retiring LMS rep is definitely a `him`. I have reason to hope we will have a new rep before too long. Sorry to see Richard go as he certainly helped me a lot by organising servers for my Masses here.
Perhaps because the people aren't English and many want to become part of Scotland again the LMS has decided not to bother with us.
