Patrimony?

There has been quite a lot of discussion about what exactly constitiutes the Anglican patrimony which the Ordinariate is charged with preserving in the Catholic Church. The problem appears to be that many of those in the Ordinariate were already so Roman that there was little about them that was discernibly Anglican. Maybe a clue to what we might expect that will be different to the culture of the average Catholic parish may be seen in the musical programme for the Darlington Ordinariate. Maybe our cathedral might attempt something like this but generally this is sadly not what most Catholic parishes would be happy with. I`m looking forward to being at the ordination Mass.

How Outrageous! These infiltrators must be expelled with all speed!

No Colours of Day? No Clapping Gloria? No guitar & saxophone rhythm & blues voluntary?

Seriously, I now know why some of our Bishops were lukewarm, or even hostile to the Ordinariate.

The startling fact is that this is ONE parish. Puts the rest of us to shame.

It seems as if we must all join the Ordinariate to experience any 'Catholic' music in our liturgies. Can you imagine any of our liberal parishes putting up with that 'old fashioned' music? As 1569 Rising says "No colours of day etc? " It hardly seems Catholic!

I popped into a church the other day to pay a visit, and a school Mass was in progress. At the end, all the children burst forth into 'If I were a butterfly/fish,' etc, etc., and with all the attendant actions. The enthusiasm was impressive, especially from the teachers, but the 'Catholic' content was nil. As has been said many times before, our children are no longer being taught the Catholic faith, but are being infused with a wishy washy, feel good, have a nice day mentality that has no lasting value beyond the immediate moment. It is because our children have no knowledge of the faith that they have no interest in attending church. I wonder how many at the age of eleven (or even sixteen)could write down the Our Father, or the Hail Mary?
And whatever happened to those small booklets Plain Chant for Schools? Perhaps the people in the Ordinariate have snapped them up? To sing is to pray twice they say - not with songs about buterflies it isn't.

I have a box full of Plainchant for Schools. I also have Mayhew`s plainchant for parishes book. I have asked our music teacher at one of thhe primary schools to teach some simple chant to the children for school Mass but nothing has happened yet. I must chase it up.
