I could pin them up at the back of church. There was an interesting paper given on the rights of the faithful in the Church by Fr F Morrissey at the Canon Law Society conference in Gateshead a few years ago. Can`t remember what the conclusion was but can dig it out (I hope.)Fr Michael Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15320336535138538635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35539648.post-19869984277037741742009-12-06T23:49:28.118+00:002009-12-06T23:49:28.118+00:00"it would be a good idea to have the rights a..."it would be a good idea to have the rights and obligations of the laity pinned up"<br /><br />What a strange idea! But what about the parishioners' rights under canon law? I presume, in the main, we don't really have any. It is probably only those who have been elevated to 'ministries' who have rights; the rest are just there to pay up and shut up. <br />What if we don't want our priest moved (or we do want him moved)? Can we send two parishioners round to see the bishop? What if we want our bishop moved? Can we put in a transfer request? <br />I think it would be a good idea to have the rights and obligations of the laity pinned up at the back of church in the same way as health and safety regulations are pinned up in ofices and factories. It might have proved useful over the past 40 years or so when our churches have been vandalised against our wishes and all we had to do was pay up and shut up.Discreet Observernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35539648.post-40018809988680580322009-12-06T17:05:53.960+00:002009-12-06T17:05:53.960+00:00Karen,I do find your new blog enjoyable. Worth remembering that when a parish priest is inducted he is inducted with "all the rights and pvilleges" of the office.....most of which are burdens anyway! Woe betide a PP who dares to use his "rights and privileges" . He is most unlikely to receive the support of his ordinary!! Especially if the ordinar is attempting to ride roughshod over them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
